Fix Failed Instagram Reel Downloads
When a download won’t work, the cause is almost always one of a handful of issues — usually the link itself or a browser hiccup. This guide is organized by symptom, with the likely cause and a concrete fix for each. Work through them top to bottom and you’ll resolve the vast majority of failures.
Error: “Invalid URL”
Cause: The link was copied incorrectly, truncated, or points to the wrong content type.
Fix:
- Make sure you copied from a Reel, not a Story or profile.
- The URL should contain
/reel/or/reels/— see how to copy a Reel link. - Re-copy the link; part of it may have been cut off.
- Try copying from instagram.com in a browser instead of the app.
Error: “Reel Not Found”
Cause: The Reel was deleted, or the account switched to private after you copied the link.
Fix:
- Confirm you can still view the Reel in Instagram.
- Open it in a browser while logged out — if it’s gone or shows “private account,” it can’t be downloaded.
- If the account is now private, no tool can access it — see private Reels.
Error: Network / Connection Issue
Cause: Slow or unstable internet, or a temporary hiccup.
Fix:
- Check your internet connection; switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- Wait 30 seconds and try again.
- Try a different browser or a fresh tab.
Error: “Service Unavailable” / Won’t Process
Cause: Temporary server load or maintenance, or Instagram briefly changed something on their end.
Fix:
- Wait a few minutes and retry — transient issues usually clear on their own.
- Clear your browser cache or open an incognito window.
- Retry once more before assuming it’s broken.
Download Starts But Doesn’t Save
Cause: Browser download settings, storage, or a blocker interfering.
Fix:
- Check your device has free storage (iOS/Android silently fail when full).
- On iPhone, use the downloads arrow in Safari, then Save Video — see iPhone guide.
- Disable ad-blockers or VPNs briefly; some block the download request.
- If the file lands in Downloads but not your Gallery, it’s the media scanner lagging — see save to gallery.
Nothing Happens When You Click Download
Cause: An ad-blocker, script blocker, or browser extension is interfering.
Fix:
- Disable extensions/ad-blockers for the page and retry.
- Try an incognito/private window, which usually runs without extensions.
- Switch browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge).
General Reset Steps
If you’re still stuck, run through these in order:
- Re-copy a fresh Reel link.
- Confirm the Reel is public and still exists.
- Try an incognito window in a different browser.
- Disable VPN/ad-blocker.
- Check storage and connection.
Still Not Working?
If it fails after all of the above, the Reel may have been removed, set private, or you’ve hit the daily free limit (3/day). Otherwise, reach out via the contact page with the Reel URL and we’ll investigate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does it say “Invalid URL”?
You likely copied a non-Reel link or a truncated one. Ensure the URL contains /reel/ and re-copy it.
The Reel exists but won’t download — why? The account may have gone private, or an ad-blocker/VPN is interfering. Check in a logged-out browser and disable blockers.
Nothing happens when I click Download. An extension or ad-blocker is likely blocking it. Try an incognito window or a different browser.
Could I have hit a limit? Yes. The free tier allows 3 downloads per day. Wait for the reset or upgrade for more.
Most failures come down to the link, the account’s privacy, or a browser blocker — check those first and downloads almost always go through.
